Story

In May I will be running the Edinburgh Marathon in memory of Maisie Wood and to raise money for the charity Supershoes, this is why … In March 2018 my friend Ben told me the terrible news that his daughter Maisie had been diagnosed with Leukaemia. 6 months later in September she passed away, just 3 months before her 3rd birthday. Seeing Ben and his wife Julie go through the grief of losing a child has been truly heart-breaking. There is of course nothing I can say or do to take away the pain they are feeling but none-the-less I wanted to do something to show my love and support. I like to run, and I am signed up to do my first full marathon in Edinburgh on 26th May. I asked Ben and Julie if there was a charity close to their hearts that I could run for in memory of Maisie and they suggested Supershoes. Supershoes are a registered charity that provides unique customised gifts for incredibly brave children and young people, who are receiving treatment or palliative care for Cancer in the UK. The gifts provided are hand painted customised canvas shoes, hence the name Supershoes! Supershoes are created to brighten a child who faces massive challenges every day. The gifts also promote mobility, by encouraging children who may otherwise feel too poorly to get out of bed and enhance emotional and physical wellbeing by providing a positive step on a difficult journey. So on 26th May I will become one of Maisie’s Rainbow Runners and I would be delighted if you could show your support by donating to Ben and Julies chosen charity in Maisie’s memory. Each pair of shoes costs £50, wouldn’t it be great if we could fund 5, 8 or even 10 pairs? That’s 10 children and 10 families who are going through the hardest of times right now. Thank you Harvey
